Stockyard point gummy sharks

Post by Finnigan » Sat Jun 06, 2015 10:01 pm

Got a itch for a fish a few nights ago, so me and a mate headed out to make the most of the gummy moon. Got lines in the water an hour before low tide around 8:30. Within 10 minute we got a legal gummy. About half an hour later i was onto a slighty bigger one. As the tide started to come in so did the weeds and became unfishable. Decieded to bring it in and just as i picked up my rod, i get a fish on :super: , feeling like a 20kg weed fish I bring in a 50cm Ling among a huge ball of weed. Not knowing what it was we quicky returned him to the water. Not bad for a quick 1 1/2 hr fish, got our first gummies ever.

First Gummy
Length(Last gill to start of tail): 47cm
Bait: Cali Squid, Paternoster rig (Top hook) 2/0 Baitholder

Second Gummy (sorry about the messy pic, 1st photo had no flash)
Length: 52cm
Bait: Fresh Salmon, 4/0 Circle Running rig

Not huge but first of the species so happy nonetheless, now for the big girls :Dribble:

Great effort and report. Brief but informative.

Why are these points used for minimum size measurements on gummies?

Gummies and schoolies are allowed to be landed gutted and with the head removed to the rear gill slit. That's where the partial measurement comes in.
