Re: Gunnamagic
I'm using a 5000 sustain. Any highspeed reel will do. 4000 is the size that we usually recommend. Find one with the highest gear ratio you can, 5.8 or 6.2 seem to be it.

Re: Gunnamagic
9ft is good. Usually throwing 40-70g metals depending on the swell and side currents. I use 15lb braid, 18lb leader.

^ yup. Be careful with casting weights and rod design. Don't exceed your rods casting range by too much or you'll experience 'the Carl effect"

Re: Gunnamagic
It's more about handling them in the wash Purp. When a 1.5ish fish goes side on in an outgoing wave you freaking know about it. You're not going to get overpowered in a fair fight on that gear, but there is almost alwasy a significant breaking wave that you need to contend with when landing them
That and line much lighter wont' tolerate the pressure from casting and the abrasion on the sand when retrieving.

I'm sure if you post on here when you're going you'll be able to get a spare rod off someone to have a cast with, it's exceptional fun when they are there.purple5ive wrote:do the salmon actually have a good fight in them on such heavy gear??
