Thought this one was worth the "premium" report lol
I will be re-spooling both of my PENN 60LD reels with 60lb mono and 100lb topshot. Unfortunately it is a small reel so I will only get 300m on it.
I think it's time to upgrade, so I might be selling both combos and buying a Tiagra 50 wide + 37kg rod.

Next time you have a crack, always back the drag off when you have the fish close to the boat, as there is not a lot of stretch to absorb a sudden run.
If you end up re-spooling the penn, I wouldn't worry about topshot, id just go with a 200lb wind on.
Great report anyway, can't wait to get down there myself.

Dad was asking me why dont we just get a small harpoon gun and shoot the fish with an arrow/rope once it is in sight under water, then drag it in the boat.

Re: Portland Tuna Trip Report - 22/4/17
pretty disappointing to lose it, it was an incredible fight though. I've hooked some huge rays and they don't compare to the weight and power of that fish. I tried to lift it with the rod only to have the tip remain in place and the middle of the rod arching upward.
I'm thinking I might try and find a bigger reel too having seen the same size Squall as mine get owned
