Dont give up. Tuna is quite late this year. I expect it to pick up in a few weeks. I'm off to Portland next week for 3 days so see how things go

Only my 2nd dough nut of the season i am saying tuna where shut down eather cause of weather or they were back over the shelf it wasnt for lack of bait we seen **** loads

I went out of Portland on Saturday. Trolling out towards the shoe and about 5 miles from the rock there was a heap of activity - with a bird frenzy with dolphins and seals working the water. Worked the area for 30 minutes struggling to avoid getting cut off lures by other boats - lots of them.....So we moved on. Witnessed no hookups .

About 10 miles towards the shoe I headed towards a large flock of birds sitting on the water. As i passed them my dekky Ivan saw 2 tuna jump out on the water. I headed towards the area and passed over a bait ball about 5 metres below us. As we passed we got a double hookup and landed a tuna and dropped one. I marked the area and worked it for another hour for no further strikes.

We kept trolling towards the shoe and then towards our blueye spot. When we arrived we did a deep drop and got smashed - never saw a rod shake like that with 600 metres of line out. We winched the line up but there was zippo. The lumo squid was smashed as was the real squid on both hooks. The swell was 2 metres with a crosswind and we struggled to keep position. We did 3 more drops and called it quits and trolled back to the ramp.

The bins at the new Portland boat ramp had very few tuna carcasses as did the bin at the original ramp. So not much tuna out there at Portland. Heard from a guy at son's soccer game that the place for tuna at the moment is Apollo Bay. He said that his mates have been bagging out there.....this weekend

was defenitely you guys, i seen chris at the back of the car with the boot open checking for something.

agree its the place to be atm


We fisheded apollo bay on friday. In nice condictions for 4 nice fish.
No massive fish but worth the trip.
