Barwon Heads Salmon - 29/10/2023

Post by Andrews » Mon Oct 30, 2023 1:51 pm

Hey everyone,

Sharing a quick report from Barwon Heads at the mouth of the river,

Conditions:
Clear skies, full sun, 22C, 10.00am - 12.30pm
Clear run in tide / slack, full moon

The Barwon River is always an incredible family friendly fishing spot, there was a nice amount of people, few families and everyone was super friendly,

We started the session in the shallows, casting along the bank against the current focusing the currents where the water was aerated with foam on top, knowing there would be fishing sitting in there eating anything that the current brought in.

We used the Zman 2.5" Slim Swimz in Smoke Hologram, with 3g bullet 1o jig head,

We started flicking these lures with a fast retrieve keeping the plastic 1-2 ft under the surface and within the first cast we've got groups of salmon chasing the lure on the surface,

You'd wind and feel the tugs at the tail before hooking up which made for great anticipation, and there were moments when we'd both be hooked up,

Over 2 1/2 hours we caught and released 25 salmon, averaging ~24cm, biggest went 30cm, partner was thrilled to catch the biggest one,

Great session, had a good yarn with some people, great fishing,
