Salmon smashing plastics - 18 June 2023

Hey everyone,
Sharing a beauty of a session flicking plastics chasing some salmon.
There was an incredible bite with a school of thousands of bay trout cruising into the pier resulting in ~40 fish between two people in an hour.
It was a great morning to break in some new gear, my partners new Daiwa Aird X 7'2 2-4kg rod worked a treat on the salmon and I was trying out a Gomexus 30mm titanium handle, appreciate the brand sending me out it to promote.
Starting the session we were flicking Zman 2.5" grubz in motor oil and instantly had good bites with the bay trout chewing the tails.
This resulting in a smaller fish while drifting with the current.
Partner being the competitive type swapped to the 2.5" Slim Swimz in opening night, and pulled in a few more fish before being rocked by this larger fish.
I think the grubs performed better on the slack tide, however I did go through more due to loosing tails from the bay trout chewing them up.
