the heads 10, 1, 17

Post by Nude up » Tue Jan 10, 2017 6:55 pm

After reading that the kingies were at the heads I could only make tue did a ring round no one could make it. Not to be put off I decided to go alone, not a good start slept in till 0530 jumped in the car the boat already hitched up I got to queenscliff at 0710 and was soon under way.
I was going to go and catch some livies but I was running late and decided to just troll lures. When I came out off the cut and turned right I could not believe how many boats were at the heads.
I put two lures out an xrap 30 and a river to sea minnow I was trolling along when I went over a bait school with some good marks around them

When my r/h rod got a hit I brought it in and it was a couta, but I realised I had a problem being by my self no one was driving and there was a lot of boats around and the outgoing current was strong. I decided to troll away from the pack.
I ended up just outside the heads and it was as flat as a tack so I brought the lures in and made my way to a reef off barwon heads when I got there there was about 20 boats on it damm holidays.
I went about 1k past and decided to drift I had one paternoster one running sinker one deep diving squid jig and my jig rod in my hand . I was kept busy for the next 4 hours gurnard ,blue throat wrasse, a pinky , flathead around the 50cm mark and some arrow head squid.

About 1pm the wind had started to pick up and I had an appointment in portarlington at 4pm so I decided to give it away as I got close to the heads it had chopped up alot as the wind was holding the outgoing tide up I just took it slowly about 25 kph on and off the throttle when I got into the flatter water there was a massive school of salmon with loads of boats following it if you zoom in on the photo fwd of the boats you can see the birds.
I had a fun day even with no kingies
