Yep 50 meters out, apparently there is a maker on shore fisheries officers use to line up with to see if any lines are beyond 50 meters, I haven't been there for a long while so I haven't seen the marker myself.

What's the reason your lines can't be out 50+Metres?

I couldn't think of a worst place to fish, are there any other options for you? Queenscliff harbor would be a better place to start

It's surrounded by a marine national park.

Still plenty of fish and sharks to be caught there, just don't cast too far.

I reckon the majority of fisher people wouldn't be able to cast a bait more than 50mtrs anyhow, once you have a sinker and a couple of baits swinging around its a lot farther than you think. I know I struggle.

If you hook a fish and it runs into the marine park you have to cut the line, probably the most illogical thing I've ever heard. Are they basically saying that it would be better to have a fish (that was not in the marine park) with a hook in its mouth plus 50m of line attached to it rather than just land the fish and keep it/remove the hook and release it?

Is that actually written down anywhere?

Yeah I'm pretty sure it was stated in some media release a year or two ago.
