Headed down to Barwon River, Barwon Heads on Sunday around 8.30am. It was wet, cold & windy. The tide was low but the current was strong. We managed to hook 5 legal size breams (29-36cm) and about a dozen mullets. (We also released 5 undersize breams). Had to leave around 2pm as the tide got high and the weather got more nasty.
Please post more Barwon Heads reports here.
Kevin.

Re: Barwon Heads
Another good result at Barwon Head on Sunday.
The weather was perfect with no rain & little wind. Fishing at high tide in the morning til low tide in the arvo.
Result:
6 x small breams (29-31cm) released 4
15 x small KG whitings (28-30cm) released about a dozen.
1 x 52cm luderick.
It was a relaxing Sunday. Will try squidding at Queenscliff Pier next weekend for a change.

Fishing Barwon River at Barwon Heads on Sunday from 7.30am low tide.
Caught 5 breams, 2 over 35cm & 3 ~ 30cm using worm & running sinker rigs.
When the tides near high, tried for Salmons & Trevallies using chicken.
Caught 1 x salmon & 1 x trevally (41cm) & ~dozen little mullets.

First time poster, love the forum!
Now Im very inexperienced so dont go grabbing your pens for this one:
Spent a few hours today trying my luck around Barwon river both upstream and at the mouth, tide was going out like a torrent. Some decent bites here and there but Caught nothing but weed.
Thats my third go in the area and im struggling to get on top of the current ive tried both running sinker and other rigs nothing is going my way.
Targeting kgw or bream and open to any advice.

running sinker can be ok for both, but remember to fish as light as possible. both fish spook easily and can be finicky with bait. try a running sinker on your main line with a swivel and leader and also try having the sinker run right down to the hook. its basic but it catches fish!
basically just do some research on the web, look at fishing rigs, how their caught, what others use for bait and how they fish for them. they will bite it soon enough.
also for the whiting try a paternoster rig. so the bait is presented well. and you might catch two fish at once.
hope that helps
In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone. –Ray Bergman
