Headed down to Gardners Creek yesterday. As soon as I got there I landed a worm right on top of a Carp and he duly accepted the offering. I was thinking to myself 'Geez, that was easy', before he decided to swim away with my hook. It was the first Carp I have 'lost' in Gardner's Creek so I was mildly devastated. I'm not sure whether it was my poor knot tying skills or knot, but I would like to think the old blood knots become a little bit loose after you catch a few fish on them, at least that's been the case with myself anyway...

Anyway, it was hard going after I lost that fish because the brief fight that ensued meant that I spooked all the Carp in that particular spot. I nearly retreated home Carpless, but alas, I persevered and landed two after tying a decent knot and a healthy dose of persistence and patience....

Got this one today infront of incredulous onlookers at GC. Despite putting up a great fight (and measuring 55cm), it didn't bother to trouble my weight scales, weighing in at the grand total of 0.0kg!

Nice work. Fascinating thread... you seem to be getting them pretty consistently.

What you doing with all these beasties? Fertilising your garden?

Have a mate at work (South African) who swears they are delicious and his mum makes the best fish cakes with 'em. I might go have a go at getting a couple myself if he'll agree to take them off my hands :icon_lolz:

Pretty much. I actually got into gardening through fishing, in that I started a compost for an ample supply of worms. Having achieved that, I had nowhere to put the compost, so I thought 'why not start a garden?' (I have mint, onions, beetroot, beans, spinach and some other stuff in at the moment). I've heard Carp are great for the garden, so yes, that's where every one of my catches goes. It kind of resembles a Carp killing field at the moment. Pretty sure I could get fishing banned from Gardner's Creek in a week if I started leaving them on the bank. As an aside, I think its ridiculous the number of Carp infested waters you are not permitted to fish in metropolitan Melbourne (Blackburn Lake springs to mind). Bangg

Can't say I'm interested in trying them to eat. The water is rancid and in addition to that, the Carp themselves smell...really bad :puke:

Have to say I have often wondered the same myself, you'd think they would be encouraging people to come catch them - but I am sure there is some good reason why they ban fishing in these locations or at least some political/bureaucratic reason for it.
