Where all the carp?

Post by ChrisD » Wed Dec 26, 2012 4:34 pm

Where are all the carp? My girls and I have been hitting thee Yarra from Yarra Glen to Templestowe, using corn as bait, at various times of the day and not a carp to be found. A few eels, which have been fun but no carp. Now I am happy that carp are proving hard to find, hopefully it shows their numbers are low but the girls still want to catch a BIG carp. Any ideas on where they can be found?

It has been slow here in the Goulburn as well! I'm not sure if they slacken off when spawning, if they are spawning now. Unfortunately they can not have disappeared so this may just be the calm before the storm!
thanks

Hi Chris, probably a bit outta your way, but I was riding along the Merri Creek bike trail last week and saw dozens of them in the shallower sections, and big

So if you're up for a trip to the city, drop a line in at Fitzroy, or Collingwood, or Abbotsford, or Brunswick East etc etc

Shows how tough they are if they can thrive in that water

if you're willing to drive west, you can catch them in Cherry lake in Altona and have a bbq and picnic in the park while you are waiting for a big bite. :r

so that explains where they went....towards the city and western suburbs...lol
We hit the Yarra agian this afternoon, had a couple of huge strikes, one on corn, one on worms...suspect eels yet again. both bust offs.
thinking of switching to 100pound line and a surf rod to get these bloody eels....
Next time i might try somewhere new and get away from these eels.

Way outa' the city up on the Murray at Swan Hill they are so thick in numbers that you can walk across the river on their backs without getting your feet wet!

Hit the Yarra at wonga park last night and my daughter actually landed a good size carp. First I have seen in some time. Unfortunately while we tried to take a pic it gave a big kick and ended up back in the water. I managed a nice little Mac perch for the session. And plenty of strikes for the session.
