Trout opening

Post by mazman » Mon Sep 10, 2018 1:30 pm

Hey guys,
Decided to steer clear of the goulburn for trout opening and stick to some of the smaller rivers to try and get some time and water to myself. The decision paid off because I didn't bump into another angler the whole morning and it wasn't until I met up with my dad in the evening that I saw someone else fish. Temps are still low and rivers high but there's trout to be caught if you get your lure/fly in the right place. Finished on 5 for the day but some lousy photos mean that there's only 3 pictured.

Good work Alex.
I fly-fished some skinny water on Friday. Unfortunately it had bucketed down rain on Thursday night and turned two of my target rivers into torrents. They were way too fast to wade safely and difficult to see the obstacles on the bottom. I nearly went A over T a couple of times, so I bailed with a donut for the day.

Thanks Greg, briefly had a run with the fly rod but didn't manage to bring any to hand with it and was struggling to get nice drifts with the extra water coming down.

Yeah, had the same problem. It was way too fast; eddys and bubble-trails were nonexistent. I spent a lot of frustrating time untangling my fly from trees, due to trying for that bit more distance to get a good drift.

Thanks Adrian, don't think I'll end up with anywhere near the numbers you get but building up a bit of a tally now.
