Algae blooms
Hi guys
I am currently arguing with someone that releases their carp that he catches I have tried everything and I just want to know what u think of this line if it’s true
Algal blooms: There have been suggestions that carp may increase the likelihood of algal blooms by preying on animals that eat algae, stirring up nutrients trapped in bottom sediments, damaging aquatic plants, and reducing plant growth via greater turbidity.
However, carp densities may have to be very high to significantly increase the likelihood of an algal bloom.
He’s a hard one to crack lol
Cheers

Re: Algae blooms
No idea he thinks they are good because it makes it so he can catch stuff in local lakes... no idea how he gets himself to do that thoughSTriplett1997 wrote:Carp are disgusting vermin. Why does he release them?

Re: Algae blooms
Now he says that he relocates them some times into different waterways. This guy is really pissing me off because he is saying he is not doing anything wrong by relocating them

Guppie
You can tell him that the fine for a FIRST OFFENCE for transporting carp to another water is $15,000:
$15,857.00 Noxious aquatic species - bring into Victoria, take, keep or possess, sell, transport, put into container, release into
protected waters - first offence
A second offence is $31,714.00
As to failing to kill carp under the Fisheries Act that is considered to be a Contravention of Order in Council or permit (Angling license which has a condition the killing of carp) with a maximum fine of $3,171.00
Give him the figures, they might alter his thinking- tell him he might leave his DNA on the carp he transports!
Best Wishes

Re: Algae blooms
They are mud sucking vermin
It is (very) illegal
The reason he doesn't catch anything else in the lake, maybe, because of the carp in it.
cheers
