Eildon Area Trout
Hi Everyone
On Monday I thought I would head out to the Goulburn near Thornton to brush up on my fly fishing skills. Unfortunately, the Goulburn was in a pretty muddy condition:
Coming home today I noticed the river was higher and clearer so it looks like they are releasing water from Lake Eildon. That should improve things around Thornton/Alexandra by this weekend. It will take longer to improve down Nagambie way.
I went for plan B chasing trout in some tiny streams above the lake. The rivers flowing into the lake are still running hard but the small streams are wadeable with care. Usually at this time of year they hardly run but they have a strong flow down them at the moment due to the recent rain. They have cleared up and are good for lure fishing:
I caught stacks of small rainbows and browns, the typical size in the pics. Although not big they were great fun and with the weather warming up it is a great way to cool off:
In my last effort I hooked and landed a brown that would have been close to 40 cm. Unfortunately with no landing net he slipped out of my hands as I was carrying him to the bank so missed out on a pic.
To top it off this friendly guy visited my camp and spent half an hour with me:
My advice is over the xmas break hit the small streams to cool off and have some fun fishing.
Best Wishes

Good work Will, :a_goodjob: cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
