I was thinking of doing the same on Sunday till I got a bout of gastro. I might go out tomorrow evening.

Which SP were you using Dave?

Picked up this chunky reddie on a spinner:

Saw a couple of small ones chopping at baitfish.

It will only get better as the weather warms up!

Had another rough week with my cousin's other half passing away. The weather was gorgeous yesterday so I headed out to a channel near Nagambie to have a flick just on dark. I landed two reddies on an SP plus had a couple of tiddlers follow a hogback spinner:

Enjoyed a beautiful sunset providing a great end to the day.

That Mitchell reel has been around for quite a few years! Am sure it has done a lot of work too!

Yeah Dave, I've been flat out too. I'm trying to tile my house in between work and supporting friends and relies doing it tough. It was just a spur of the moment trip. Once I've got my tiling done it will be time for serious fishing!

Hi Paul, the Mitchell 300 dates from the late 1950s. It is still a terrific spinning reel. The only real mod to it are upgraded drag washers. You can still get new parts for them on Ebay. Without doubt the most famous spinning reel of them all - from 1950 to 1970 about 10 million were sold and they followed the same design up till 1979. They have a lower gear ratio than most modern eggbeaters ideally suiting them for targeting native fish with lures. The rod is the same age - it is a hollow tubular steel rod called 'The Ross' made in England. My dad had one and it is the best ultralight casting rod I have ever used. It will outcast carbon fibre rods when fishing with unweighted baits etc. Back in its day it was regarded as a top notch trout spinning rod.
