Brown and rainbow trout advice

Post by mcuzzy » Sun May 14, 2017 2:13 pm

A local spot has rainbow and brown trout, chance of catching a fish is pretty limited but I thought I'd give it another try anyway.

I'm not a huge fan of lure fishing, have been red fin fishing a bit recently and find it frustrating, would rather just leave the line in the water, sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Just wondering what kind of rig and bait I should use to succeed in catching these trout, as I'm not sure if there's a difference in what these different types of trout go for. Do they both go for the same baits?

Any help hugely appreciated, cheers everyone :)

Is it a stocked lake or are you in the wild?

If it's stocked with hatchery fish then powerbait is the best way to go.

tassie devils will catch trout and i like the berkley powerbait grub in pumpkinseed for redfinc though either could hit both. lure fishing is definitely different but in my opinion also more exciting. good luck, let us know how it goes!

worms are a pretty good choice in fresh water, not many fish will swim past a worm without stopping for a second look

G'day Mcuzzy.targeting trout use the lightest possible line and lightest weighted sinker allowing for conditions.
Night crawler worms or scrubbies have worked for me in the past at yarrambat lake on trout. Also had success using same bait under a float on overcast days.Be aware trout awill be easily scared off by movement ect so take note not to be to visible on the bank.
Good luck
