As for policing the thread wolly, it has been a bit over the top recently? Locking threads that werent out of control because you don't agree with the discussion/topic is a bit over the top and has a negative effect on the forum.

I think it does more to maintain public awareness that they are a pest, rather than actually do anything to cull them. If the public are fully aware they are a pest then it might go a long way to prevent people deliberately populating them for sport.

So the policy is definitely a bonus for public awareness at least.

A single individual the impact is probably negligible multiple fisherman catching carp would make a difference.

On the notion of carp being returned I am unsure of any difference it would make realistically but for the time being I feel it is best if they are killed and disposed of thoughtfully.

I agree with the above, currently threads that are discussing thought provoking, although contentious, content are being locked prematurely and left as they are. shutting down the conversation for those who were interested in the topic at hand and not actually removing content that isn't in line with forum rules.
