Nice Way to Christen A New Rod

Post by Whiskers » Tue Nov 08, 2016 9:17 pm

A new rod arrived yesterday so I took advantage of a fine evening tonight to chase a few trout.

The best of the evening was this chunky 4lb brown.

I forgot to take my camera and brag mat with me so this one came home with me. I was hoping it may have been an upgrade in the species comp but it was a couple of cm's short. I'm not complaining though. Trout for tea tomorrow!

Adrian. The fish were caught on a small Mepps Red Fury fished on 4lb line.

Ducky. Your question got me thinking. I retrieved the stomach this morning and emptied the contents into a bowl of water. The fish had been gorging itself on any number of small black nymphs, a ton of mosquito larvae and a large amount of crunched shell material, probably water snails.
There was also a few large beetle wing cases (about 3/4 of an inch long) a number of small tadpoles and the remnants of a couple of minnows.
Very much a five star diet!

The flesh of this fish is a beautiful dark salmon pink.
