With the cold water temperatures of winter carp are much less active than in the warmer months.
Not to be undaunted I fished a local pond today, ending up with two commons and seven mirrors. No big bruisers, most were around the 40cm mark, but good fun on light tackle. It was very unusual to have such a high ratio of mirrors.
The bites were very timid, no smash and grab stuff. Also, baits were very selective. Not a touch on corn nor cheese paste. All the fish fell to worm. The bites were very soft. All that gave them away was a gentle drop back of the line.
They say that breaking a mirror brings you 7 years bad luck. With sending 7 mirrors to carp Armageddon today does that mean I won't catch another fish for the next 49 years!

Re: Winter Carp
Winter carp fishing can be very hit or miss. They don't like the cold.Scraglor wrote:Nice one! I have never caught a carp, tried plenty of times for no luck !
Once Springtime is here again there will be plenty about.
Although they are an unwanted noxious species I don't mind catching them.

Re: Winter Carp
Was great weather today by winter standards, but still tough going by carp standards - great work on the cull, that's a good number to keep you occupied and as stated a fun catch on light gear (especially when they are in a pond with limited places to go)!
