Chasing trout in the west
hi all, happy NY!
I've recently moved to West Footscray and I have no idea about the freshwater scene going out west. I normally stick to places like Buxton and Noojee and love small stream fishing compared with lakes.
Wondering if there are any stream systems such as Buxton or Noojee out west within a hour-two hours drive, I have read up on the Grampians but that is a bit of a hike from where I'm at (about three hours)
thanks!
Clint

Plenty of small streams in the Otways hold trout, although they're not great size it's an excellent place to fish given the environment if you ask me.
I can't speak from experience but Aire River is known to hold big fish in the lower reaches.

Thanks guys,
It's definitely not a worry with the size of the fish as I always catch and release and it's more about spending time in a nice environment than landing a trophy. I'll have to check out some areas of the Lederderg river.
cheers
Clint.

I've heard that Jim Crow Creek near Newstead/Daylesford holds a few trout, I've been meaning to fish it for a while but haven't gotten around to it.

There is also the Jacksons creek just past Bulla which does have quite a lot of trout in it.

Are u saying this from experience? If so up or downstream from bulla I can't find trout downstream of the dip at all though I haven't been in a while nowHuntnfish wrote:There is also the Jacksons creek just past Bulla which does have quite a lot of trout in it.

I have always fished mainly upstream in the deeper pools with unweighted worms.
