Diamond creek report

Post by skeets » Sun Nov 01, 2015 7:47 pm

Lower sections from above Eltham to end at Yarra shut down after the rain. Plenty is better, so is Merri.

The rain seems to have once more washed sewerage into the creek - it's gone dark greyish again which it tends to after rain. Makes the Yarra look clean. Not silt, it's something else.

Can't see anything. And no carp sign anywhere, no bubbles or movement from yesterday. All the normal spot look lifeless. Nothing moving. Worryingly, the ducks have mostly moved on also. I'll dig around the edges tomorrow to assess the damage. At least the tiger snakes are holed up, diamond can be tiger central in summer.

The creek cleaned up with dry weather somewhat and almost got to dirty brown
Then with the rain Friday and sat morning it went the colour of wet road asphalt worst I've seen in a long time. This flows into the Yarra at Eltham. I took pics:

It looks a bit like blackwater, although I've only seen that a few times, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Diamond cleared a bit for a few weeks and the carp were receptive, quite hungry
Flows dropped to minimal over the last fortnight
Just this weekend it's back in black. it's turned black and stagnant again, worse than even before, ugly looking. And,no more carp sign.

Good flush over the last 24 hours
The creek was up a metre over riparian levels on Saturday
Dropping back to nearly riparian now (about a foot above Sunday morning) but still silty and very turbid; photo taken Monday morning
The yarra is up about half metre also today at Eltham and very turbid with the runoffs from all the creeks.
Reckon carp and cod would be stuffed to the gills with food by now. That my excuse for blanking last night and this morning, anyway.
And, plenty river backing down now also. Cleaner than diamond creek but still silty. About a foot over summer levels now.
