Went back to Hughes Creek yesterday for a look, dropped some lines in but it was pretty pointless with all the debris coming down after the rains,

Hughes creek is meant to hold a decent population of Maccas as well Davo & they love high water

Re: 2 days out and about
Dave, there are actually quite a few yellas and the odd cod in the creek upstream to about the area in your first pic. As you go downstream towards the Goulburn the numbers increase. Biggest problem is that a lot of the creek is silted.
When I was a kid we got huge numbers of reddies out of the creek. They declined once the carp arrived.
Today, the most common fish in the creek are carp, they are present in big numbers and they are absolutely huge. You can sight fish for them in summer.
There are maccas in the creek, but they are really just hanging on and could easily be fished out. That is why their presence is not widely promoted and in what areas of the creek.
If people wan't to catch a macca the Yarra is a better option. In recent years they have become one of the most common captures in the Yarra.
Best Wishes

Re: 2 days out and about
Thanks Dave, I found a few pics.
Mudsuckers in the creek, a lot further upstream than where you were. You can see what I mean about sight fishing:
Typical sized carp from the creek - humanely euthanised with anesthetic visible: Further downstream towards the Goulburn. You can see why it holds a few cod and yellas.
Cheers
Truedogz.
