Low!
What a day! Fished a section of the Rubicon and I thought we may have been lucky for it too be relatively untouched on the day. My mate told me last year he went to this location in the afternoon on opening day and there was only one car there! Obviously there was a lot more there in the morning that had left before he got there.
I should have known better and we arrived there mid to late morning to find the place representing a car park! We knew we would not find anywhere better so decided to check out the Eildon trout festival then return.
There seemed to be less displays than last year. This trip to Eildon was worth it however as by chance we met Sebastian (forum member). This was to be his first attempt at freshwater fishing so we thought it would be a good idea to help him out. So after I chatted up the DEPI chicks we then departed with Sebastian following the hi-po VR!
We fished water that had been 'flogged' already. This didn't stop Sebastian from picking up his first brown trout/fresh water fish ever within about 10 minutes! A smallish brown which I suggested he keep as it was bleeding from the gills and the bait was scrubworms. In the meantime the freshwater 'experts' offerings of orchard worms and lures went unnoticed by the fish. Sebastion followed up later with a small brown which was released and then he lost another good pan size brown. Dave and myself caught nuthin'!
We stayed until about 730 pm and did not even land a blackfish!
It was good to see Sebastian land his first freshwater fish.
Great effort mudcore...not sure why but I can not view your pic.
Dave had an altercation after dark with some cattle (see pics with eyes). Rumour had it they were stampeded into our area by a couple cats on horseback. There was a tense standoff but Dave's threat of turning them into sausages kept them at bay. Next year me thinks I am going to do what I did last year...hit the streams after midnight. So, when is cod season opening!
cheers
