Re: Some midwinter redfin fun.
Thanks everyone.
Jim, i dont catch many small redfin in this creek any time of the year because the creek is full of big reddies that prey on them. If anybody goes up there and kills all the big ones the creek will fill up with small reddies and end up over populated i reckon.
In the lakes i definitely find the smaller ones harder to catch during the winter months.

Which one tastes better you reckon, the smaller one or the bigger one?

Not sure Andoki, I threw them all back as I usually do!! I have eaten a lot in the past, but I only usually keep them from larger lakes where they are more self sustaining. Personally I reckon they all taste about the same regardless of size, they are all very nice.

beautiful fish mate the colours are amazing! looks like you had a cracking day on them too
In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone. –Ray Bergman

Back in the UK, winter was always the best time for the bigger perch, usually caught on a roach, Rudd or single striper (small perch) livebait! Looks like you have a great spot to fish there mate and glad to hear you're putting them back!!
