Not only that, but he seemed very capable of swimming under the water as well!

Btw, have you ridden along the Plenty? You're almost guaranteed to see a snake swimming in there from my limted experience...

I don't know if I'm morbidly curious or categorically horrified... but if the fishing's good in the Plenty, I'd give it a squiz.

Finally caught my first Carp from the Yarra (11/3/23) - 43rd time lucky! I actually hit up the one spot I know of in the Diamond Creek, but that wasn't producing, so I went for a ride instead. I followed the Diamond Creek trail all the way to Hurstbridge and back, stopping for some subway in Diamond Creek on the way back. It was too good of a day not to go fishing, so I tried the Yarra on the way back to where my car was parked at Westerfolds Park. I got this guy pretty quickly on corn on with a paternoster rig, and was getting bites fairly consistently after that, just couldn't hook 'em. Seems like the Yarra is either on or isn't.

Anyway, I was just glad I ticked 'Carp from the Yarra' off. It was proving to be my bogey water. Wasn't a biggie by any stretch, but I probably wouldn't have landed anything bigger anyway, as I didn't have a landing net.

Cleaning up the waterways one fish at a time

Got these 4 down the creek on the 13th March, 2023. Went back the next day in even better conditions and was expecting a doubly-big haul, but got zilch, but I guess that's just fishing.

With daylight saving officially wrapping up today, I think that's me done for the 2022/2023 'season'. My fishing expeditions will (probably) become very few and far between until it starts warming up again!

Cornacarpio is kicking things off early this season! Was warm enough to go fishing today - in winter - so I did, and got this little beauty, from the creek, from locally sourced worms. Despite using a 10ft telescopic surf rod designed for mega-Carp, it put up a terrific fight.

Truth be told, I have headed out a couple of times this winter (it has been quite mild, with a 20 degree day a few weeks back), but have failed to catch anything - until now.

Just for something different...

Did a bit of 'spinning' today for a couple of nice Redfin.

Preparation of fish
The flesh of the redfin is white, sweet and very much dryer than that of other river fish. Preparation for cooking is not easy. Even the best of fish scalers are useless on the tough hide of this species: skinning is the only answer.

Heard the Carp are on the chew down at the local creek, so thought I'd give it a go - was too good of a day not to. Got this fella about half-an-hour into the session - my only bite of the night. Came out of nowhere pretty much. Corn kernels on a paternoster rig did the damage.
