A pair of Trevs from Portarlington Breakwall 26-1-14..

Post by nhillboy » Tue Jan 28, 2014 6:08 pm

Hello everyone, i had a fish with my mate Bomber George and my godson Billy at the Portarlington pier/breakwall Sunday 5pm to 12.30am. Stayed the week end at his parents holiday house in St.Leonards which was good fun. Back to the fishing, it was very slow going pretty much the whole time. There were the usual morons, d#@kheads and show offs zooming up and down the breakwall on/in their jetskis and speed boats. Frustrated many of the fishos. As bait we tried Pilchards, squid and pipis. Hooks varied from size 6, size 2, 1/0 and 2/0. At about 8.15pm leading to sunset all the rods were getting constantly hit with pillies and pipis stripped off the hooks, squid not touched. Could not get a hook up and the bites seemed like small pinkys or even small trevally, very aggressive. The action lasted only half an hour then dead again. Most of the breakwall was busy with fishos right up to midnight (high tide 11pm) then deserted and empty. Overall i landed 2 Silver trevally 27 and 31cm at 6pm and 9pm, George getting onto bigger stuff as 2x banjos and 1 eagle ray that took him and his audience for a walk half way down the breakwall. A guy next to me got 1 trevally and one bloke on Georges side got a 40cm pinky and 1 flathead. Had the women bring us fish n chips at 7.30pm so we wouldn't go hungry. Gave the 2 trevs to Georges parents who are having them for dinner tonight. Spent Monday at Indented head swimming, jetskiing responsibly and getting burnt like lobsters. George and i the dummys forgot to slip slop slap as all we wanted to do was get into the water.

**During the night George landed what appeared to be a snake. 40cm long, dark yellow on top and white underneath. Very aggressive and kept opening it's mouth to bite you while trying to untangle it. Was released by grabbing its tail with the pliers. Does anyone know what it is?? Pic not the best as it would not sit still.

Nhillboy waiting for a bite.

Good stuff mate , better than catching nothing. The 2 trevs would of put on a nice little fight anyway.

Cheers , Rick.

Funny R7, good point there. Seriously !! as a fisho i was a good boy on the jetski, keeping well away of swimmers etc. The trevs put on a super fight for their size. Got them both on KL 1/0 circle hooks and pipi.
