How is Barwon Heads or St. Helens boat ramp at the moment?

Post by Foofoo » Wed Jul 10, 2013 9:54 pm

Hi everyone, I haven't been fishing for about a month already due to uni commitments. I was hoping to either head to Barwon heads or to St. Helens boat ramp fishing land based this sunday. Has anyone been to either places recently and caught anything? Thanks!

Tonnes of mullet at Sheepwash bend and also some bay trout. At least have some fun and gather some fresh bait. If you've got a bit heavier rod around 9-10' long, consider taking it along and rigging a live mullet on it for a chance of Mulloway.
Good luck mate!

Thanks for the reports guys! I usually eat the mullet I catch, they're pretty good if fresh :)

Well, in that case you can count on a big dinner. They are on the top of the column, but can't really use a float coz it's a fair way out. Two hook paternoster and a really light sinker. Tighten the line as soon as the bait hits the water, they'll attack it straight away. They seem to be coming on and off the bite throughout the day, but when they're on it's 2 fish a minute LOL.

There is a road called sheepwash. Turn left at the servo as entering Barwon Heads and then drive down till you reach the river in a part where the road bends right. There's a carpark there. Accessable spot and easy to fish from. You can fish from your car. Hope this helps.
