Breakwall 10-3-'13, Nhillboy v's George...
Stayed the weekend with George and his family at their holiday house in St.Leonards. We all went for a swim Saturday afternoon and to Queenscliff in the evening for a nice dinner. This freed us boys up to have a fishing session Sunday.
The word we got was St.Leonards pier was fishing crap in the morning and even crapier in the evening so we stuck to our original plan to fish Portarlington pier/breakwall. Sunday 4.30pm arrived at Portalington pier and the place was buzzing with tourists everywhere but not many fishos. Set up 3/4 of the way along the breakwall and had most rods in the water by 5.15pm. I was advised by fellow members to do as George does if i wanted to catch lots of fish. At first i did, George would land a banjo and i would too. George got a 2nd one and i did too straight away. Well i thought f@%k this for a bloody joke i don't want to be catching f$#ken banjos all afternoon, stuff copying George. I switched some hooks to pipi and squid landing a salmon 30cm and an undersize flathead released. Next we both landed a silver trevally 24cm and a few more bloody banjos and a flathead each about 30-32cm.
George provided the days highlight hooking a good size eagle ray that put on a show for the tourists that had gathered all around us. Got the exhausted eagle to the rocks with camera ready for a pic but he busted the line and swam off. Pilchards best bait and surf rods hit most due to the extra cast distance helped by a SSE breeze behind us.
Georges son, my godson 9 yrs old was with us and he had the priviledge to watch and learn from 2 professionals..lol...
Our days tally was 1 salmon, 3 flathead, 2 trevally, i eagle ray and 1000 banjos...nah about 12 with George landing about 8. We had a great days fishing with top weather at a place we are not familiar with but our bad luck was we had to share a large packet of CC's for dinner. You see the women had a nice dinner of seafood pasta at the pub and at 8.30pm all the eateries had shut early, no food left too many tourists. We missed out on our pier delivery of pizza, F#@k!! Most fish action 5.30pm - 8pm, water calm, low tide, partly overcast sky and slight breeze SSE.
Once it went dark fish action quiet, left at 10.30pm with breakwall busy and fishos arriving for high tide about 2am.
I learnt George is not that good a fisho because he doesn't know how to avoid catching banjos....
George's parents arriving to the holiday house this Thursday will have fresh fish waiting for them in the freezer.
:dinner: :super: :water: :reel:

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
