St Leonards Salmon Bust Up - 14/12/2021

Post by Andrews » Wed Dec 15, 2021 3:54 pm

Hey everyone,

I wanted to throw together this quick update from my session yesterday @ St Leonards Pier.
If anyone is keen for weekly updates, I post three times a week on Instagram under the handle FishingAndrew.

The past week has been pretty poor conditions for squid and the lack of fresh ink reflects that.
That said, we've been getting a run of salmon which are chasing bait schools of pilchards.

Tuesday 14/12/2021
5:15PM-7PM Overcast evening decent S wind with a clean run in tide.

Mate and I rocked up and within five minutes we noticed this huge bust up heading out way, well within two minutes they were at out feet.
There were all decent size with some solid fish amongst them, we swapped over to the Zman Minnowz 3" for the bigger profile and first cast we were on! Managed 8 fish in 30 mins before the school moved on.

Unfortunately knocked the gopro in the fight before. The emeraldas is nice, but not for fighting salmon. Definitely felt under gunned.

Nice catch there. How do you find fishing that pier on or around full moon days, as i really don't catch on a full moon, and also low tides. I was going to go fishing this morning, but the windy conditions turned me off and also full moon.

I was there in the arvo, bagged out on squid. Good size hoods compared to last couple weeks, water was crystal clear. Saw Andrew there also bagging out as expected from the squid guru ;)

The last bust up of Salmon I experienced was at Station pier, wow they were 2 meter from pier and huge, we caught 4 each, most were lost as they broke the line, net was not available ,wasn't expecting that.

@gregmaka, Yeah I've never had success on full moon days, however the week before I find quite productive. High tide and low tide I don't mind, as long as there is enough wind and water movement, I'm happy.

@Sebb, couldn't agree more! Very fortunate to have been able to get a few.

@Don Fisher, awesome mate, it's been really good the past month or two, mix of great days and then dead quiet haha!

@Kenle, Yeah! There were a few bigger ones that night! Great hearing you got your bag to mate!

@lightningx Cheers! Always great to see and catch, definitely gave me a workout on the emeraldas! haha
