Abundance of baby flatty :

Post by chopzor » Fri Jan 04, 2013 10:23 am

Got to the boat ramp at about 6am and was out on the water at around 6:30am.

Anchored about 300m from a muscle farm and instantly started getting hits...from 6cm flatheads...

We caught about 30 in that spot and threw them all back.

Moved to a new spot and caught a fair bit of undersized snapper, had to throw them back as well...they were good fun to catch though.

We then left with nothing but severe sunburn.

If anyones interested in launching at port you're better off taking your chances with the pier :/

Beware...the fisheries were monitoring the area!

Yes, the fisheries are indeed a good thing. If only they inspected the warmies a bit more, so many undersized fish are not thrown back there.

We only went a few km off shore, the water was very choppy. The pier was in view.

Plenty of fry at Inverloch too, a good sign.

Have you tried around that rock formation that's fairly close to shore?

An uncle has caught a few banjos, flatties and he's even seen a gummy around there.

If you're unsure where it is I'll try find it on Google maps.

This was a few years ago though.
