the pier should have some cala. bring a squid jig. the pier is always crowded. try the channel close to the ferry for some trevs.

Pilchards, chicken, prawn or soft plastics (worm or grub tail)

Try the marina channel either side of dead high tide flick soft plastics in a worm style to the other side of the channel and retrieve slowly giving time to sink. There are occasionally large trevs 2kg plus and salmon. You can also get small squid in the marina after dark. There are always squid from the pier. If you are after anything else try Lonsdale pier for mullet or salmon. There was a large kill of bream around Lakers cutting a month or so ago, so probably not worth trying there.

Why did the bream all die there?

The current can be VERY strong at the cut (marina). As suggested, go when its about to slow down. If its running, you will need to cast with the current as if you go against it, you will not get your jig to the bottom.

Not sure why the bream died, have not heard as yet in the local press. However, there have been similar kills in the Anglesea River over the past few years. They linked that to rain runoff through the natural peet that make up the coal seams in the area. Not the same in at Q cliff. I am no expert but there were algae blooms along the coast at about the same time and there was a little rain. Rain + pollution + hot weather= algae - oxygen and dead fish.

gday guys, just thought i'd put in my 2 cents about Queenscliff marina as I've done ALOT of time there.. I fished there about a week or 2 ago caught quite a big squid in the marina, not the 1st quite large one I've caught there either.. the spot where one of the lads was talking about before, where the ferry is there you also get king george whiting. I've found for the travelly soft plastics work the best, but the best bait for them are fresh muscles. Hope this helps guys :)
