Portarlington -03/08 - PM - Fonzi goes Fishing

Post by StarrangerAU » Sat Aug 03, 2019 11:35 am

Friday night 3rd of August shall be enshrined as Portarlington Harbour - Fonzi night. To be fair there was no Fonzi, and there was no Richi Cunningham either, however Joni and Chachi were quite likely making out in the carpark.

So why the references, friends,..... Happy Days.... Happy Days.

Sitting at home on friday after work, I looked at the weather, I thought I could squeeze in a run to Portarlington catch the 3am hightide and go through to sun-up if I had the stanima. Arrived at 9pm, and with my new cart I trundled all the way out to the outerwall of the harbour to set some lines with pillies n squid heads. The light but firm westerly made things a bit unpleasant, but it was manageable so long as it didnt blow up anymore.I sat there for an hour or more and... de nada! Actually was starting to get a bit miffed. However, the other fisho out on this night calls past and tells me he's landed a couple of Pinkies on the inside of the harbour, so I take this as a sign that it is time to pull stumps and change possie.

So moved about and parked my self on the harbourside mooring pier, looking out towards the harbour entrance, I baited up my three lines, cast, sit, .. and bang all three go. For the next three hours it did not stop. In fact was kept busy enough with just one line. Fun, fun, fun..... no banjos, no toadies, no rubbish fish.....The bulk of the catch were pan sized, a few micro pinkies scattered amongst them as well, but overall 80% were just coming into size. All were returned, bar four which I thought was enough for the weeks feed. Maybe I would have had more if my catch bag didn't come un-done at the top  allowing two to escape.

Bites went quiet at about 4.30am, and I finally worked out why.... Hooked and landed a 70cm mean looking, very toothy Barracouta. With this fella about, its no wonder the Pinkies moved on elsewhere. That's a sign that it is time to go home.

There you have it, Fonzi goes fishing.....Happy Days indeed. :P

That’s a nice lb session mate :)
Those sessions are great fun with non stop action. The bait goes through fast though.
About time you had a good run! You deserve it and enjoy the fresh pinkies! Well done
Cheers

Great session mate, when they are on like that its the best time to use lures.
if you dont know how to use them, then that was the time to learn!

Great report well done mate I prefer pinkies around the 30cm length to eat over bigger reds.

Hey Staro

Seems your night started off being a Potsi and ended being a Fonzi , , , , "Coolamoondo"

Nice to see fellow fishos helping out with where they are biting. And what a Hot clean bite it was (shame, would have been interesting with soft plastics)

And great to hear that you only kept 6 , , , , oups , , , , 4 , , , , nice eating at that size and smart being restrained as I don't think they freeze well.

You have one Jealous Car over the border :(

Cheers, Bugatti , , , , who has Chachi-ed a few Joni s in my earlier years in varies parking locations :-D
