Clifton Springs Snapper Help
Good evening all,
Our family has just purchased a boat (yay, dream come true!!) and we are wanting to head out Clifton Springs for snapper this weekend, weather looks nice. :water:
I was just wanting any assistance for rigs/bait and even maybe a reliable mark to start at?
Really wanting to get a big red this summer season, keen to put in the hours, so any help is greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Angus

Re: Clifton Springs Snapper Help
A very popular spot is the turn of the channel which is to the left of Clifton springs, straight across from Clifton springs is the ammunition pier very long you can not fish close to the jetty it has an exclusion zone to the left of the jetty is a popular spot. Buy the fishing map of the bay you will see a second channel towards the end of the Geelong channel it’s just about opposite portarlington you can fish in the second channel in fact you will struggle to get a spot at this time of the year. As bowl said silver whiting, squid, pilchards and garfish are all top baits.

Hey mate,
I choose to stay away from the channel and fish over Point Wilson way 38 6.285s 144 30.654e 38 5.950s 144 31.448e your not going to catch monsters but you should catch good fish (if your after 8kg stick to channel for hours and days . I move around the area a few times every 1hr30 sometimes only a few hundred meters. Ive been very lucky this season and catch decent fish every session a few times a week. Pinky & Snapper from 35cm - 75cm most in the 45cm range good eating and small gummies. Always catch fresh squid before heading over... drift over weed beds 38 8.621s 144 33.744e
gold and dark squid jig has been working for me
Black magic KL 5/0 tender squid strips laying flat on hook with no to limited spinning
" " 40lb leader
sinker sliding on main line to swivel and 1.5m of leader to hook has been working.... will get lots of red weed so keep checking lines
