slow day.

Post by Nude up » Mon Oct 16, 2017 7:37 pm

I had plans to fish sunday till I got a call from my daughter sat night, son in law and grand son stuck his pajero has lost fwd drive he is at the sand dunes about 35k past portland. So sun I hired a trailer drove there picked them and the car up and towed it home luckily another member of the 4x4 club towed his camper home. I made great time left at 8am and I was home by 6.
Now I was really desperate for a fish the tube got called into work so I was solo and tired after yesterday so I was very slow up hit werribee south about 10, a guy at work had hiven me a mark about 8k off indented head gave it a look for only small flathead under 30cm. I headed down to marker 7 to fish the edge of the drop off as I past steampacket channel there must have been 12 boats crammed in there.
The very first drop on a snapper snatcher the rod buckles and its a 51cm flattie I thought it was going to be a good day. Got the berley going 45 mins nothing them I get a massive run it finally stops a get some line back then its off again I can tell its not a ray 15 mins I start getting line back then the inevitable ping bitten off I am guessing a bronzie.
I caught a few more flathead nothing like the first but all above 30cm I pulled the pin around 3.
I just need to be on the water earlier or stay later.

The schools of bait in the bay is awesome I tried to get a picture but they would flash in and out, I didn't see any schools of salmon just diving gannets and penguins
