With the weather looking good Wednesday and probably my only chance to fish this week I persuaded tuna tube to give the rip a crack. We were on the water at queenscliff at about 0645 and headed out to the heads to be greated by about 15 boats and a couple of charters.
The plan was to drift the outgoing tide with a bait on the downrigger watching the sounder then jig if we spot fish. Good plan I thought except for one thing we were in about 40 mt with the squid down 20mt we spot some good marks and quickly drop jigs turning our backs on the sounder getting a few touches on the jigs we were excited to hear the drag of the reel with the squid on only to find we are in 10 mt of water going over a pinnacle, we drop our rods I grab the down rigger and tell tuna to quickly drop the boat in reverse gear ( I never turn my engine off drifting at the heads) I manage to get the downrigger bomb up and off the pinnacle the squid is gone but in our haste we had picked up our other lines and wrapped it around our prop bugger. **** happens quick sometimes.
We headed back to the marina where we removed the line and checked the leg was not leaking oil all looked good so we headed back this time just drift and jig when we see marks

plenty of these but no kings and other boats around us didn't seem to be having any luck. We decided to troll lures for a bit so on went a couple of xrap 30's and we follow the contour lines on the gps, we trolled for about 45 mins nothing lets head out I said but the outgoing tide was making the waves to break so we decided to wait till the tide turned.
When the tide turned we headed out towards barwon heads we trolled around the wrecks nothing had a crack at jigging nothing wrasse feeling let down the thought we would bottom bash for a bit nothing at 3pm we decided to give it away I had to drop into portarlington on the way home just as I was bringing the last rod in I managed a big slimey spewing where was he a couple of hours ago

Back at the boat ramp we spoke with some blokes from coburg who had a crackin boat vinyl wrapped and twin suzuki 250's. They managed one around 3 kilo they said after the tide turned the kingies turned up point lonsdale side they also said matt cini reel time charters cleaned up.

As a follow up I pulled my prop off today and found more braid which was in a recess in the thrust washer/spacer

I changed the oil in my gearbox and no water was evident so it looks like the seal is ok oh and the slimey I had for lunch today smoked.

The munitions pier is at point wilson and techmically has an exclusion zone around it due being military although I have never been bothered by the water police there.
