queenscliff and the rip

Post by Nude up » Tue Feb 09, 2016 8:05 pm

A mate went on a charter at the heads over the weekend and got his first kingie. I decided to have another crack myself. We were on the water at 7 headed out to the heads it was like burke street worse than snapper season. After 2 hours of fruitless jigging where we only caught bluethroat wrasse and leatherjackets and feeling knackered we decided to drift for squid.
It was slow going this week a few small ones the a couple of crackers. Eventually the squid slowed down so we decided to head back to the rip and jig on the way back a school of salmon was busting up so we quickly tied on some slugs and cast away but no takers I had some really small slugs once we put them on we started to catch them we kept a couple for bait they were great fun.
Another boat was also following the school an evolution my mate who is a north fan told me it was ben cunnington and madjak daw and some one who I can't remember he was impressed.
We never got back to jig so maybe next time, or cape woolami

Too bad on the kings but looks like some decent action. Nice chunky salmon.
Cast, catch and put it back

A few of my mates went out and told me they did well on both Friday and Saturday last week. They went back out again on Tuesday but didn't get anything.
