St Leonards Christmas Holiday

Post by Trumpeter » Tue Jan 12, 2016 5:00 pm

Hi all, spent 2 lovely weeks down at our van at the SL Caravan Park and managed to get onto a few. We had some memorable feeds with a good variety of fish caught but the wind was shocking for nearly a week with almost gale force s/easterlies. The KGW were hard to find over 30cm and with plagues of pinkies around the whiting fishing was hard going but there were plenty of squid, flatties, and leatherjackets to catch. Went out one morning armed with heavier rods and a bag of squid heads with a gummy in mind and after a big banjo and a mega battle with a ray the size of a car bonnet I was rewarded with an ok specimen. The squid were plentiful and ferocious and I had several double hookups while drifting in 5-7m so never took long to get 10.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Yeah you never know what you'll get there and most of the time it's something tasty. Good thing about this trip was the lack of those big ugly grey puffers, didn't get even one.
