You don't want to use a speargun out of the water for floundering, too dangerous!

If you are wanting to get into spearfishing, as in using a mask and snorkel and going underwater, I would suggest starting with the hand spear first and getting good at the diving aspect before introducing a high powered speargun into the equation.

I have a carbon fibre Torelli Taipan speargun which retails for about $700, plus other trick gear like camo wetsuit etc. Start off simple and cheap to try it before investing in the serious gear.

i should be clear when i say spear fishing i meant floundering.

Yes I use the Sea Hornet fiberglass spear when floundering. You can buy very cheap aluminium spears but they become a bit flimsy after a while.
