St Leonard's Sunday 14th June 2015

Post by BIG GAV » Sun Jun 14, 2015 6:52 pm

Fished today with mates competing in an open species comp, lines down at 9am so we launched at 8:30 n headed to a marked snapper spot at about 23m... A lot of flathead ALOT! We must have threw 40 back in I released all mine as I only wanted to keep whiting. We had a few hooks bitten clean off by what we assume was couta, the sounder was chock full of fish at this time.

Next mark we hit was firing 3 weeks ago we smashed whiting there but today nothing a few very small lj's.. Didn't stay there long. We got a call from another competitor and headed up next to him, it was like Bourke street! Boats everywhere.

I got to give my new takeda fireblade a run and was very impressed! The hx 1000 reel was great also! We got a lot of whiting at the last spot and headed in at 3pm to weigh in. As per usual whiting fell to squid we landed a few on pilchard strips aswell. Perfect day on the water started off at about 6knots and was glass by the time we left

Total kept fish were 22 whiting and 5 flathead..

My mate came 3rd weighing in 9 fish for 2.6kg

This was only the rear view we were surrounded! Kept landing my bait in front of the boat near us as it was the best shot of not crossing lines. Happens a few times today thankfully I took no part in it today

Its always busy out the front of st lenoards when the weather is good. Flathead over 40 makes for a great feed and the bonus of whiting good work.
