queenscliff sat
Had a ripper day out today with a mate and his 17 year old son we launched at queenscliff at 730 we drifted out the front of the cottage by the sea we picked up a few small squid then it went quite we moved to a spot where we always get good flathead I picked up one at 43 cm then a couple of banjos and draughtboard sharks but the weed was killing us big kelp we gave that away and we went into swan bay wrasse and more wrasse good fun on the light gear but not what we were looking for.
We moved back to the cottage by the sea and picked up some bigger squid one a real horse we were off the water by 4. My mates son was amazed at the first world war submarine off swan island

Sounds like a fantastic day.
cheers

Is it rough seas / bad weather that stirs up the weed? From my limited salt experience at Merimbula / Pambula (many years ago) and Rosebud jetty, seemed to be either no weed or shitloads of weed!Nude up wrote:................... but the weed was killing us big kelp we gave that away and we went into swan bay wrasse and more wrasse good fun on the light gear but not what we were looking for.

Re: queenscliff sat
I was always believed that it was the weather that stirred up the weed but today the weed was shocking and it has been calm for days I will have to do some research

Re: queenscliff sat
We have been getting absolutely killed by weed off hastings. I believe it has a little to do with rough weather, but the main reason being that certain kinds of kelp are annual, not perennial, so at certain times of year, some weeds will all die off as the temp drops or rises, then the whole lot gets dragged out of the bay by the current, causing us fishos nightmares.
Re: queenscliff sat
i was over at queenscliff yesterday as well, didnt think the weed was too bad at all, sounds like we were fishing the same spots too.
Ended up with 13 squid, 3 at around the 37 hood length, a heap of tommy rough and the usual butt load of reef species.
Cracker of a day with almost glass conditions.
I found the water was not as clear as usual yesterday which given the calm conditions fro the last few days was out of the ordinary

Re: queenscliff sat
We noticed the water was murky early but later was a bit clearer after 3, all the big squid came from 3.5 to 6mt of water all the smaller squid came from deeper water.fitzy90 wrote:i was over at queenscliff yesterday as well, didnt think the weed was too bad at all, sounds like we were fishing the same spots too.

The weed was in the coles channel we normally get some but every rod yesterday within 5 mins loaded up the bushy red stuff and the big kelp hopeless.
We were out the front of the cottage by the sea in the lonsdale bight there wasn't too many boats drifting there there seemed to be loads near bell reef

off the rocks during low tide. There is a car park at the end of Hesse St. Calm weather only and prepare to get wet as you may have to wade to get to better platforms

Nice feed of cali there nude up! Those wrasse can be a menace at times. I hear they make great flatty baits...but then again what do flatties not eat? Lol.
