St Leonards 17/5

Post by Trumpeter » Tue May 19, 2015 12:00 am

Sunday was an absolute cracker of a day out on the water weather-wise, launched just before sun up and drifted for squid which would be my bait for the day in 4m along the foreshore. Only took a few minutes to get some and then headed out to the Coles channel. Didn't take long before the action started but it was all Banjos, Swell sharks and Port Jacksons I was definitely in the right area for a Gummy but no luck there. At one stage I had a triple Banjo hook up and it became tiresome winding these things in on whiting gear against the incoming tide, some were too large and heavy against the current so I had to snap them off. I also wasted a lot of bait and hooks on those awful grey and white puffers and small leather jackets, so I moved a few times but the Banjos kept finding me. The whiting came on once the tide changed and I got 3, (2 just size I released and one @36cm) but by then it was wall to wall boats and with even more turning up I headed in. Although a little disappointing with the type of fish caught they kept me busy and it was awesome and relaxing day out.

Best time of the day
