Got to the ramp 8’ish with my mate and his son, had obviously been busy early, but at 8 we were the only ones launching, which made for a luxurious start. Zipped out to our spot on the far side of the mussel farms, and straight onto kgw’s. Caught a yakka, and baited fillets on a bigger outfit for a hefty PJ shark. Still had the head left, so stuck this on and a few minutes later the rod buckled. First run was a train, my mate called ray, but too many kicks, I called gummy. It then headed back towards the boat at a rate of knots and parked underneath us, 5 minutes of lifting/winding and a 4ft gummy is in the boat! Continued on with continual yakkas, undersized pinkies, and plenty of good kgw’s to add to the fish box. Only 1 flatty kept, and only started catching numbers of these later in the session, which was a nice change.
Headed in not long after 1, my mate’s son kneeboarded all the way back to the ramp, his best ever day on the water!
