Wye River

Post by The Professor » Mon Apr 09, 2018 8:00 pm

Hi all

Heading to Wye River for the weekend, wondering if anyone had any tips on best places to fish. I don't have a surf rod but wondering if that means fishing off the beach is a waste of time? Haven't been to Wye River before, and will be with my kids so taking it pretty easy, but keen to get a line in if you think there's somewhere good to do so?

Thanks in advance!

Without a surf rod will be pretty hard going off the beach but the river itself does have some bream in it, or 10 k down the road at Kennet river is a bit better for bream and the odd small trout, or the lorne pier is always an option with standard rods

Just a warning that there are plenty of European Wasps down that way at present. I got stung by one fishing off the rocks near Apollo Bay yesterday...not the worst thing I’ve ever experienced but it certainly didn’t tickle!

Might want to keep the weather in mind....going to be a rugged weekend down that way.

Thanks, all. Yeah, will have to see how we go. At least the wind will blow the wasps away...!

A westerly wind isn't too much of a problem down there if you fish on the western side of the bay as it is quite protected. But there is going to be a fair bit of swell so watch out for the bigger waves.

Weather plus no surf rod meant it wasn't to be for me this weekend. And yes, there were quite a few European wasps, but mainly around the General Store. Thanks again for your tips. Will be going back to Wye again in the future, so will now have a better plan for fishing there.
