St. Helens Rocks

Post by Fishsniper » Sun Jul 12, 2015 5:57 pm

Fished St. Helens from 4.00pm to 9.00pm for 2 flathead about 35cms and a pinkie about 42cm, was getting hits every 25 mins or so on scad and squid,
I tried fixed rigs, running rigs, big baits and small baits but as soon as they felt me pick up the rod they would spit the bait out, very frustrating, the snapper are definately there so if anyone else is going for a try then good luck but they are there
cheers Fishniper

Thought I'd just add onto this post instead of making a new one.
Went down to St. Helens tonight from 6:30-9pm got small bites all night and caught 1 20cm flathead, my guess is that's what was biting the whole time but even smaller ones than the one caught!
Bait was Silver Trev fillets.

I should have added that some of the bites I was getting almost snapped the rod in 2 and one bite took one of my rods right out the ground and lucky enough the reel got stuck in between a couple rocks and save it but by the time i went to strike the fish was gone and yes I was getting the little flathead bites

they must have been pinkies.
next time use circle hooks, and don't strike when using circle hooks, fish will hook themselves usually. if you do have the rod in hand when they are biting, just gently put pressure on them and you will feel the fish hooking themselves and making a run for it. then do whatever you normally do
cheers
