silver Perch

Post by jedgpz » Mon Feb 18, 2013 4:18 pm

Hit the Goulbourn River today between Shepparton and Echuca for a fish.
Was hoping for a cod or two or three or ...
Caught 9 Silver Perch with the biggest being almost 50cms in length.
Caught 3 Carp as well.

Have others been catching Silvers in numbers and of good size?

Maybe they should review the thinking that silvers are under threat?

I catch and release most my fish caught. But do like to eat fish on occasions.

had silvers knocking off our bait at the murray last week and fished the goulburn this morning for 3 silvers, a small cod (33cm) and a carp, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

I bet it fought well mate. The biggest I have caught is about 35cm and compared to the hundreds I have caught it was a monster so a 50cm is a ripper great stuff mate.

We got a few up the Murray on the weekend. One was a 50+ as well. They are cheese and Bardi thieves!!! There seems to be plenty around. Not to mention trout cod seem to be going well too.
Never tried one (for obvious reasons). I like to eat fish, but with natives I usually let them go.
Cheers, Scott.

Only way to avoid the little bait stealing buggers is yabbys, i generally move on when they show up when bait fishing for cod. While they are "slightly annoying at times  " they do have a bit of go in em when hooked.
