15 minutes of magic
With the season coming to an end, I decided to have one last crack at the cod.
I tried my best to chase them this year amongst my other piscatorial pursuits.
Having fished the Ovens, the Murray and the Loddon ,for the season finisher I headed up to the Goulburn .
A mate had the day off and I had the absolute luxury of fishing from his tinny.
Was a nice break from kayaking or walking the banks. The wind was projected to pick up in the second half of the day and we wanted to get a couple on the board asap.
When I cod fish in winter, i usually doze off as the monotony of futile casts take over and that was the case this time as well.
A bump, ah must be snagged. Quickly pinged the line to free my spinnerbait off the offending stick.
But wait! the stick moves and there are headshakes.
Took a couple of seconds to register what was happening and up popped a fat cod around 52cms long.
finally the cod gloves i carry around were used for the intended purpose and not just for gripping flatties.
A couple of casts later, i was more switched on and felt a little bump and whacked into it.
This relatively fit specimen put up more of a fight. Took some drag and did a couple of lunges under the boat.
I was on fire!
But from there on end it was back to the grind. No fish were interested in swimbaits/spinnerbaits/surface lures/cranks.
Good end to winter! Cant wait for Summer to come around.
also found a school of reddies and smacked one on a vibe. Cooked it up and was actually remarkably flavourful.

Yup, redfin is good to eat!
That looks like a good pan size redfin, how did you cook it?
