Bundalong ANZAC Day

Post by jedgpz » Sat Apr 27, 2019 7:29 pm

Hey all.
Spent a few days up at Bundalong on the Ovens and Murray.
Chasing Cod on lures is a great way to spend a few days.
This is an annual trip that me and a mate or two do at ANZAC day.

I love fishing bundalong for its options. Ovens river, the Murray and Lake Mulwala are all accessible from where we camp.
Normally we have a lot of success on surface lures up there but this year we did not even get a boof. It was not from lack of trying as we almost flicked our shoulders off.

I ended up with three Cod, 45cm, 58cm and a 53cm. The 2 smaller cod smashed a 110 coddog deep diver in bright green and orange, one flicking and one trolling. The 58cm fell to a Target 1 million deep diving Codger in Bright green.

Had a big hit on my favourite Bright orange Bassman DT spinnerbait only to drop the fish. Later that day I lost one of the blades from the lure, which is a pain as it is my go to spinnerbait as it have got me more fish than any other lure. Last week I was in Trelly's Shepparton and the new one dont have the orange blades like the old one did. I hope I can replace them.

Cheers
Jed

Good report cod man! My memory fails me but Trelly's have some orange Bassmans behind the counter on the left. Maybe the very large 'Big Gus' type tho...I am not sure. Also, Boats and More now stocks Bassman...including orange bladed/orange plastic ones...possibly the type you use. Tell them Bender sent you...they will charge you double! When are you likely to go (so I can beat you in there)?
Cheers

Will find another species of fish to use my non-orange lures on rather than give them away!

G'day Jed.

Loved your report, not just for the three awesome Cod (your photo says it all), which anyone of those Cod would be a fish of a life time for wannabes like me. Believe you me, I'd give any one of my 3 testicles to land a Cod like those.

But, loved the report also for all the layers of stories it has hidden in plain view.

Like , , , , why Bundalong, is it the same mates each time, is it Anzac Day for any reason (maybe Australian & New Zealanders Annual Codtrip), just very interesting the stories behind "the" story.

Another gem of a hidden story is Texas's nail polish , , , , wonder what his choice of colour would be , , , , for the lures of-course. Reminds me of Adrian (not the nail polish) but of his 35+ year old lures that he hand painted.
