Cod oh cod - yarra

Post by Sebb » Mon Apr 08, 2019 11:04 am

Chris and I have been trying and looking and walking, we would walk top to end of yarra. From Goulburn, Yarra to Murchison, we're really keen to get a cod or two on lures (especially on surface lure). We have been and will always be til we do (get a cod on surface).

Went out 12:30pm crawling and ducking, steep banks, spikey bushes and all. Gum trees, wombat holes, family of roos, kookaburra, and .... Murray Cod !

I hooked it much later in the afternoon when I realised that though I was winding really slow, my lure was wobbling fast, so I slowed it down and tap! Tap! A miss then second tap! Bang! 54cm yarra cod in the net.
Lesson learnt, get the lure down deep and slow it down, like really rreeeaalyy sloooowww.

Later on during sunset, Chris had a big boof! But not hooked. Another lesson there, a boof in autumn, proofs it that cods do bite surface all year round.

Thanks Dave, after multiple trips to various places with all its ups and downs (mostly downs, reckon lost $200+ worth of lures).
Next is to get them on surface!
That big boof Chris had was heart stopping!

Yup and he's right.
Thanks mate, will definitely keep trying for surface hit.
We learnt a lot and still learning. Total noobs in native fishing.
Chris does a lot of online research and a lot of walks, I am more of a traditional method of going to tackle shops, listening to stories and read books such as this one, Rod Harrison's. Signed by him too. Great read.
