Goulburn river Nagambie, in search of green and gold

Multiple trips, hundreds of hours and money and I have only caught one murray cod and one yellowbelly. I really want to catch them.
Went to Albert Park Friday evening with spinnerbait after work and no success. Saw a man with his family caught two big yellowbellies on bait and took them home.

Mrs is working all day Sunday, so I thought I'd go for an afternoon fishing.
Took the yak, dropped mrs at work off I went to Nagambie. Brought two rods, one rigged for cheese bait and the other with a clip for lure fishing.
Got there about 2pm and saw few people and boats. Water level and clarity was good, wind was 9kmh.

3 hrs of paddling, bait fishing, casting, and no touch.
Saw two guys on a boat said caught 50 yellowbelly and 70 cod. I thought he was joking.
Later on I found out that they were talking 50cm and 70cm! And not 50x fish 70x fish :rofl:
Making it more awkward, I said "did you get any bites?"... "Yeah, the 50 yellowbelly and 70 cod"... (epiphany moment here). "Oh so just the one each?" (Trying not to look stupid)... "Just the two"

Well that's it I thought, another donut trip... And that "one last cast" around 5:30pm, with green yellow stump jumper. Bang! Right on the tip of the yak.
The fight was dirty and brutal. Whack! Whack! Thump! Whack! Net scoop! On the yak and on the lap, spike! Spike! Ouch!
Landed this 2.5 lbs yellowbelly.

No murray cod, but another fish ticked. The only yellowbelly I ever caught before was at Albert Park and didn't put much a fight, but this Goulburn river yellowbelly fought like Mike Tyson. Short and full of brute power.

Great job! Do you have an idea when you will be returning for the cod conquest? We are coming up to good fishing times...as in March and April.

Apart from Labour Day weekend (going to Jamieson), I will keep my eyes on the weather. Will try to go whenever the wind is low.
I've landed murray cod only once 4 years ago at King river and yellowbelly at Albert Park 3 years ago. This was my second yellow belly landed.
Didn't actively look in the last 3 years though. Was hunting more for bass and trout. Hoping will get a cod or two this year.

Albert Park yellowbelly are infamous for the "flop and roll".
Occasionally , you'll catch one that kicks up a mega fuss.

hahaha I sure could.

The rod i caught that yellowbelly was intended for big cod, so it was overkill for that yellow belly. Though, it put a good fight.
Also had Gen Black 3-5 kg rod with Shimano Caenan and 20 lb line, would have been more fun but could snag me.
