Apparently fisheries has pretty much left the area from reports. They’ve cleared some but now there is significantly carcasses more in the system.

Doubt much will change, the big irrigators up the river are untouchable while the Nats/Libs are in power thanks to all the donations they've paid, and I'd be surprised if Labor gave enough ***** to do much about it

Hammer meet nail head. To much money for those involved with agriculture and those in power for any change to happen. And probably a touch of corruption thrown in for good measure. The Darling in particular has been mismanaged for decades on both state and federal level with the blame usually always falling to a drought, or a run off, or basically anything other than those in charge of managing the system whilst the greater basin region slowly dies one event at a time.

The rich getting richer, the poor get the picture.

Terrible disgrace. And we Australians as always roll over and take it.
On a side-note, thank heavens the carp virus has been cancelled. It would've made this fish-kill look like a small kindy party.

I don't think it's been cancelled, I thought they just got an extension to do more research before it is released or something like that.

More water politics...
Royal commission report in doubt

Compliance about excessive water extraction and insufficient environmental flows has also been a focus of the South Australian royal commission in the management of the Murray Darling Basin, and the $13 billion plan to restore its health.

On Friday, the commission took the unusual step of releasing an exchange of letters with the Liberal government in SA, raising concerns about whether and when its report would be released publicly and continue to be made available.

While there is no legal requirement for the South Australian government to publish the report, "it would be highly irregular to fail to do so, and would reflect very poorly on those responsible for suppressing Commissioner [Bret] Walker’s findings", Emma Carmody, senior water lawyer with the Environmental Defenders Office NSW.

"EDO NSW has been contacted by a number of clients on the Darling River who are concerned that the report will be buried until after the NSW election [in March] as it may contain unpalatable legal truths," she said.
The South Australian government launched a royal commission into the management of the Murray-Darling Basin a while back, and it is/was due to make it's final report and recommendations public in a few weeks. However it appears some of the findings are quite critical of the Liberal government in NSW, and their mates in SA are looking at ways to bury the findings until after the NSW election so as not to hurt the Libs chances of winning.
